I Write Things

Writing is something I have always done. I wrote letters to friends that I never sent and pages in diaries that I never wanted anyone to read. When social media became a thing, I used Facebook as a dip into public writing and realized it wasn't too hard. I noticed that people read what I wrote, liked it, and even commented on it. Eventually I took over the social media accounts and web pages for a few animal rescue sites and found my voice speaking for others who had no voice. People still listened and reacted. More and more I have learned that I have a lot to say. And if you know me, you know that I mean a lot

In graduate school at Purdue University, I learned the most about myself as a writer and as a reader. There are styles that I gravitate to and styles I instinctively repel. I like a natural style, whether technical writing or creative fiction. If the audience struggles to understand the message, the author has failed. I looked at my professors, all of whom were prolifically published, to see how they kept even technical articles interesting and easy to follow without giving the impression that they had to water things down. Thankfully, I had several fantastic mentors who gave me the best guidance.

I have been threatening a book for several years now, and with heavy encouragement from a wonderful network, I have decided now is the time. My first book, 2.0, You Are Awesome is finally in the works, and it feels incredible to get so many of these thoughts and ideas out of my head and onto virtual paper.  The blog serves as a test run on some themes for the book and some stories that will find a place somewhere else down the road.

For no specific reason at all I have also decided to include my not-so-traditional version of things like product and restaurant reviews: Just My Opinion. I have as many opinions as I do stories. And what if I actually helped someone make a decision along the way?

I love constructive feedback and would love to hear from you. Feel free to also ask me any questions because I really am an open book!
